
Keeping Your Class 100 Cleanroom Actually Clean
If you’re running a Class 100 (ISO 5) cleanroom, you know the struggle. One tiny speck of dust or a random flake of material can ruin a whole batch of wafers or a medical implant. It’s stressful. Most heating elements are a nightmare in these environments because they off-gas or literally shed skin over time. We decided to fix that by pairing high-purity quartz infrared lamps with gold reflectors. Why gold? Most people use aluminum reflectors. They’re cheap, but they oxidize. That means they slowly break down and dump microscopic particles right into your production line. Gold doesn’t do that. It’s chemically inert, so it just stays put. Plus, gold is a beast at reflecting infrared radiation. Instead of heat bleeding out and making your HVAC system work overtime, the heat goes exactly where it needs to go: the workpiece. You can actually run your lamps at a lower power and still hit your target temperature. It’s just more efficient. The quartz side of things For the envelope, we use fused silica quartz. It’s tough. It can handle those brutal thermal shocks without cracking. Since it’s high-purity, you don’t have to worry about metallic leaching or weird gases leaking out when you’re ramping up the heat. But here’s a pro tip:be careful how you touch them. A single fingerprint on the quartz can create a hot spot. That’s usually how these tubes fail prematurely. Grab some lint-free gloves before you start the installation. Your future self will thank you. Making it work in your setup These lamps put out a lot of directional heat. Because the gold reflector is so efficient, the heat flux is intense. Double-check your cooling fans. If you don’t move the heat away from the lamp ends, you’ll fry the seals. We built these to be drop-in replacements for your current IR arrays, so they should slide right in. Just make sure your power supply matches the wattage and voltage of the tube. If they’re off, you’ll deal with flickering or uneven heat zones, and nobody wants to deal with that mid-shift.
